Being at the Renaissance Fair makes me happy, pure and simple. It is a once a year event (during the month of May) in Muskogee, OK, that gets better every year. The cast members are all in costume and keep in character during the event. A lot of the visitors also wear period dress. There are performers on multiple stages, jousting, great food, a children’s area, and vendors selling a variety of unique items. The fair is set up like a small town, with period buildings and winding streets which connect different realms. There are plenty of interesting characters to interact with. My daughter and I got to participate in the Maypole dance with “Shakespeare” (although I am the first to say, I don’t have any sense of rhythm), were taught magic tricks by a jester in the Woodland Realm, learned how chain mail and rope are made, watched blacksmiths at work, learned about life in the middle ages, and even met the grim reaper (that was a bit creepy!). There were so many interesting costumes and characters that it would take a long time to share them all! We had a fun day, and loved being outside.
